Kurdistan People's Defence Forces

A cold voice comes from my homeland, a neighbor to a forbidden land. The state of every event in this region resembles Kurdistan.

Not only in Kurdistan, but across the whole world, dreams have been taken captive within life. In her country, too, it is the same. There are some stories that, when spoken aloud, make the pages tremble and fall apart from one another. Her story, too, was among those events filled with pain. She carried a great longing in her heart, one that is called love.

“All pains are one”

Her life, spent in longing, was a wound from the pain of peoples. She was aware of the suffering of all the peoples of Syria. It was not only her own people; Arabs, Assyrians, Turkmen, Circassians, and Kurds shared the same fate. With the attacks of the gangs against the Kurdish people, she made her precious decision and joined a difficult war against them. In the sky of the freedom of peoples, she chose to become a free butterfly. In 2017, she was seriously wounded in the war against the gangs, yet she did not abandon her struggle for even a single moment. In 2018, when the Turkish state attacked Afrin, her anger reached its peak. She then understood that great attacks require great struggles.

“Distance from the homeland”

Once again I am far from you, my homeland; I am drowning in the ship of longings. When I move away from you, it is not because I am afraid! I move away from you because I love you. Your young men have fallen into a heavy sleep, and your young women groan from the depths. Today I must enter the mountains and breathe your scent on the high peaks. O homeland, however far you may be, the more you become a radiance within the heart.

“The great decision”

Berfîn Zîlan crossed into the mountains of Kurdistan in 2018. With all the experience she had gained from the war against the gangs, she brought herself to the level of a specialized fighter. After a period in the Gare area, she turned her direction toward Zap in order to pour out her anger against the occupiers of the Turkish state. On the bank of the Zê River, alongside three of her comrades, she waged a professional struggle against the enemy. She lived with meaning until the final moment, and together with her Kurdish comrades, she became an Apoist companion on the path.

“The season of joy”

When, in spring, all flowers raise their heads and with their buds call one another to the love of nature, all pains are forgotten. She too became a smiling flower in the spring of freedom. She was fortunate to make feelings of love blossom within the community of loving flowers. Rîma Ebdullah knew that the more color she gave to spring, the closer she came to the homeland. She became, a hundred thousand times over, the heart of a free homeland. Whenever attacks came upon her people, her belief in the brotherhood of peoples grew even stronger.

“From wounded hopes toward the summit”

The more her hopes were wounded, the greater her goal became. Berfîn Zîlan, that is, Rîma Ebdullah, reached martyrdom on April 7, 2024, when she and her comrade Jiyanda were trying to cross the waters of Zap and an accident occurred. She left her memories as a gift to the hearts of her comrades, opened her wings with pride, and joined the caravan of the immortals.
