Kurdistan People's Defence Forces

A Journey from the Golden Cradle to the Clashing of Swords

In this land, celebrations unfolded in the embrace of lament.

Death was ground down in evenings without refuge, and cries of pain vanished in its deep valleys. Despite all the oppression and tyranny they endured, the mothers of this land planted revolutionary saplings in the soil of the homeland’s freedom. On silent nights, fathers whispered the stories of heroes into their children’s ears. The young women and men of this land grew up with the idea of freedom and carried the dream of revolution into their sleep. In the mountains, its revolutionaries put on the garment of freedom, adorned themselves with arms and equipment, and entered the field of battle for the cause.

“The Summit of His Life”

A child was born in the village of Aşmê, near Kobanê. Canfeda Welat, whose given name was Abdullah Hemo, grew up in a patriotic family, and thus began his journey from lullabies toward the battlefield. In his youth, his sister joined the Rojava Revolution. With Comrade Nûpelda’s participation, Canfeda’s own search and curiosity deepened. After struggling for a time against the ISIS gangs, he set his course for the free mountains in 2017. High on their summits, he contemplated the beauty of his homeland with a heartfelt gaze and renewed his proud breath through his love for Apoist thought.

A Pledge to the Cause

He received his basic training in the Garê region and gained important historical experience. Canfeda had a gentle, modest character and was deeply committed to his duty. Through his principled stance, he earned a precious place in the hearts of his comrades. Stepping forward in every task and responsibility, and acting with self-sacrifice, was his principle of life. He worked tirelessly to prove worthy of the martyrs of the freedom cause and successfully carried out every duty entrusted to him. Whenever he remembered his people’s suffering, he renewed his pledge: to Kobanê, the fortress of resistance; to the mothers of Kurdistan; and to his Leader, that he would bring this cause out of dreams and make it a reality.

Fractured Dreams

He cried out for freedom, and a great action echoed in his throat. His greatest action was his principled life. With his cry, he untied the knot of life and wrote with his own hands the destiny of his people’s children: children who had lost their childhood in dreams of dawn; children who had bandaged their own wounds; children whose dreams had cracked, like the palms of their hands, from the pain of being denied an identity. With a pen whose ink was blood, he wrote the destiny of humanity’s freedom. With the strength he drew from his Leader, he never separated himself from organizational life, even for a moment.

Farewell Is a Beginning

Canfeda Welat worked for many years in the Garê region and assumed many responsibilities. As a young commander, he played a pioneering role in numerous fields of work. On 13 August 2021, he reached martyrdom alongside his comrade Çiyager Qehreman as a result of the occupiers’ air strikes. With his heart, he joined the humility of the sacred soil of the Kurdistan mountains, laid his head upon the homeland’s breast, and made his life eternal.

The Spirit, Too, Takes Wing

Every martyr of the homeland is an eternal flower, waiting neither for rain nor to be planted. It is planted by the hands of comrades and watered by the tears of mothers. Their spirits fly at every moment across the skies of Kurdistan, sending greetings to those who follow in their footsteps—those who have set out with the love of the Derwêşes in their hearts.
