Kurdistan People's Defence Forces

Imagine a history left in deep darkness. Imagine a people distanced from the truth of their own history.

Imagine a land divided and torn apart from every side. That geography, which had been defiled, needed to be adorned once again with all its colors. That ancient homeland, and that ancient people who had passed through all pains and suffering, needed to become conscious of their history and reach their freedom.

Only the mountains embraced them. The mountains, with all their greatness and majesty, became a shield and a shelter for that ancient people. And when the struggle carried the name of freedom, it gained even deeper meaning in all young and rebellious hearts.

These mountains do not open their doors to everyone. Those who love a free life turn their faces toward those high and rebellious mountains. Those who have tasted freedom walk upon those slopes and paths. In their hearts there is endless hope and love. Their hearts are free. Every flower they look at, every mountain they turn toward, every path they walk upon makes them one with nature. And nature embraces them, because they are noble people.

Emotions boil within their hearts. Their hearts are filled with hope. Hope is in the heart. If their hope did not exist, this heart would have long ago been left without strength. If their hope did not exist, their hearts would never have known the vein of life. What holds their weary hearts together is the hope of freedom. Their hearts are so vast that they carry millions within them. That is why the mountains embrace them and become a mother to them. They are the heroes and fighters of their people.

One of these fighters and heroes is Sîdar Serhed. He is a son of colorful Serhed, that land which throughout history rose in uprisings against its enemies. He saw all the pains of his people, entered an honorable path, and carried out the struggle for his people.

Sîdar Serhed was born in Bazîd, in the Serhed region, into a patriotic family, and grew up in a patriotic environment. In the history of the Kurdish people’s freedom struggle, the people of Serhed have sacrificed many of their children. Against occupation, oppression, and the dirty policies of the Turkish state, they never bowed their heads. They always rose against the occupying enemy through uprisings and resistance. No matter how much tyranny the Turkish state practiced, that ancient people of Serhed never abandoned their culture and always protected it.

Sîdar Serhed also embodied in his own personality the resistant truth of the people of Serhed. From his childhood, he saw the oppression and cruelty imposed on the Kurdish people, and he grew up with feelings of revolutionary revenge in order to fight that bloodthirsty enemy.

As Sîdar grew older, his contradictions deepened, and in order to resolve these contradictions, he entered a period of searching and questioning. Alongside the attacks of occupation, he closely followed the resistant stance of the people of Serhed against those attacks, as well as the struggle of Leader Apo and the guerrillas of Kurdistan. As time passed, Sîdar’s search deepened further. When he went to school, he saw the occupation policies practiced against Kurdish youth and came to know the reality of the Turkish state more clearly.

In order to understand the capitalist system, Sîdar continued his education and went to university. While studying at university, he understood that life within the capitalist system distances people from their rooted culture and tears society apart. Sîdar saw that such a life could not truly be lived, and he continued his search for a free life.

The time had now come for Sîdar to shoulder the duties of the era and continue his march on the path of truth. For a free life and for the freedom of the Kurdish people, he saw no path before him other than struggle. Sîdar saw that the most correct struggle could only be realized within the freedom movement. On this basis, he turned his face toward the free mountains.

For the Kurdish people, the mountains have always been the strongest and safest refuge. Sîdar, too, saw life in the mountains of Kurdistan. In 2013, from the city of Konya, Sîdar Serhed turned his face toward the mountains of Kurdistan and joined the ranks of the guerrilla.

When a person is locked onto their goal and purpose, no hardship or difficulty can become an obstacle before them. Sîdar Serhed was also locked onto his goal and purpose. He had decided to struggle for the freedom of the Leader and his people. For this reason, in the mountains of Kurdistan and within guerrilla life, he researched the history of his people even more deeply and saw the historical truth of the Kurdish people. He thought only of how the enemy of the Kurdish people could be defeated. Within the guerrilla, he carried out struggle in many areas. From Xakurkê to Zap and Garê, he practiced guerrilla struggle in the Medya Defense Zones.

Amid the greenery of sparks rising toward the sky, he grew his hope, his smile, and his joy. Within the freedom movement, where he gained comradeship on a correct foundation, Sîdar Serhed embraced all the difficulties and hardships of life. He made freedom, honorable living, and revolutionary spirit his principles and his greatest fundamental aim.

History has always created heroic people like Egîd and Zîlan. Sîdar also took these heroes as his foundation and walked in their footsteps. He walked for truth and took his steps toward a free life. He walked in order to reach the truth. To reach the summits, he overcame all obstacles. He left no obstacle standing before him. He walked with great morale, enthusiasm, and excitement. Whatever duty fell upon his shoulders, he fulfilled it.

After carrying out practice in many areas, Sîdar Serhed entered ideological training. During the training, in order to overcome his shortcomings and become a guerrilla of the era, he developed a strong depth of understanding and then turned once again toward practice. In order to show everyone the just struggle of the freedom movement, and especially to historicize the cause of freedom carried by the martyrs, he joined the Press and Communication Center of the People’s Defense Forces. In this work, he carried out many successful efforts.

He walked in the footsteps of the guerrilla and director Xelîl Dax. He saw historicizing guerrilla life as his main duty. He also wanted to be worthy of Elî Kanîroj, Jiyan Amargî, and Arjîn. For this, he worked without tiring. He wanted to realize the dreams of his martyred comrades. He took part in this work for a short time, but he filled every moment with meaning and labor. Although he was new to this field, he developed himself in a short time and, through his creativity, created progress in this work. He became a tireless guerrilla of the press. He always strove to historicize his martyred comrades one by one and to introduce them to the whole world.

In order to place guerrilla life and struggle within the frame of his camera, and in order to carry out work on the guerrilla, he turned his face toward the fields of practice. While he was at the head of his duty, on August 8, 2022, in the Garê region, as a result of an air attack by the Turkish state, he joined the caravan of the immortals.

Sîdar Serhed, in the mountains of Kurdistan, with his weapon on one shoulder and his camera on the other, historicized every moment of guerrilla life. With his humble stance and high morale, he was loved among his comrades. He entered the heart of each of his comrades, and at the same time he took his place in the heart of the people of Serhed. Through his stance in life, Sîdar showed everyone his loyalty to his goal and purpose. He set out on the path of freedom with faith in a clear truth, and until the final moment of his life he walked upon this truth, becoming a self-sacrificing militant of Leader Apo.
